Puerto Varas

An experience designed to let you give something back to the community.

In Chile, there is a branch of the international organization, Aldeas Infatiles SOS. The word aldea means village, and the organization aims to give underprivileged children a home, based on the idea that “a family can exist without children, but a child cannot live without a family.”  These villages were first created in Austria, during World War II, when many children were left orphaned, with the organization’s main aim being to give children a proper home.

Puerto Varas has 12 houses with one mother and eight children of differing ages each. Every mother is responsible for a monthly budget for purchasing basic elements using only the money from donations, which of course is not always enough.

This activity allows you to visit the villages, interacting with the children and, where possible, visiting one of their homes.

Another activity will see you get involved with underprivileged children from a local preschool with 190 underprivileged pupils in the community of Pichipelluco, just a few minutes from Puerto Montt.

We invite you to spend some time with the children, an experience that you will never forget.
